Blue Sunday & the Tea Party for M.E.

May 18, 2025

What is Blue Sunday?

Blue Sunday/The Tea Party for M.E. began as a small way for Anna to connect virtually with her nearest and dearest despite being too unwell to celebrate her birthday in 2012. Since then, it has grown into an international day of awareness and fundraising for one of the most debilitating and least funded or studied medical conditions. There are currently 5-9 million people living M.E. in the US alone, with an estimated 85% of patients who are undiagnosed.

How Can I Participate?

Participate however is best for you! Sip your morning beverage knowing you have virtual company from all over the world; share a photo or simply follow #BlueSunday #BlueSunday2025 to enjoy the celebration; safely gather with friends for a relaxing bit of tea and cake or host your own tea party, bake sale, or fundraiser. However you choose to participate, all are welcome.

Treats of any kind are optional but always encouraged, whether you bake your own or buy from your local bakery or supermarket. Our menu is available by pre-order only and 100% of our profits will be donated to MEAction which “fight[s] for recognition, education, and research so that, one day, all people with ME will have support and access to compassionate and effective care.”

What is ME?

M.E. or myalgic encephalomyelitis is disabling neuro-immune condition impacting every system of the body. The defining characteristic of ME is post exertional malaise (PEM) a distinct worsening of symptoms and/or symptom severity following exertion (physical, mental, emotional etc). PEM is often delayed by at least 24 hours and can be triggered by things as innocuous (to a healthy person) as listening to music, taking a shower, or reading an email. PEM can last anywhere from hours to weeks or longer.

M.E. has no cure, no treatment options and leaves 75% of its population unable to work full time (if they are able to work at all). Many are unable to leave the house or even get out of bed. Fewer than 5% of patients experience remission or recovery.
